Transitioning from a dynamic career spanning over 25 years in Human Resources (HR) to leadership coaching felt like a natural progression for me. Throughout my tenure, I collaborated with executives across every function and line of business within the banking sector, gaining invaluable insights into the complexities of leadership within a matrix organization. My strategic HR roles traversed various functions and lines of business, affording me a nuanced understanding of leadership dynamics and a client-centric approach that I now bring to coaching engagements. I successfully completed the Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential with the International Coaching Federation.
Personal interests & continuous learning:
During my leisure time, I cherish moments spent with my two children and partner, indulging in rejuvenating activities such as nature walks, biking, and volunteering. My passion for continuous learning and embracing new experiences is evident through my active pursuit of knowledge, exploration of new destinations, and culinary experimentation with diverse recipes.
Daniel Goleman’s work on emotional intelligence was a focal point of my leadership development initiatives during my HR career and remains central to my coaching philosophy. Goleman defines emotional intelligence as "a person's ability to manage their feelings so that those feelings are expressed appropriately and effectively." Building upon this foundation, I draw upon research by Elliot Berkman, which illuminates how our brains instinctively avoid things that demand higher cognitive effort. Furthermore, insights from brain imaging studies conducted by UCLA psychologists underscore the transformative power of labeling emotions, reducing amygdala responses and facilitating emotional regulation. In coaching, I help individuals identify and address emotions that may impede progress or obstruct opportunities for goal attainment. By staying abreast of the latest research and leveraging my extensive experience, I empower leaders to navigate their purpose and aspirations, cultivating the emotional and social competencies essential for effective leadership.
In addition to my extensive tenure in the finance sector, I have recently expanded my coaching practice to encompass clients from diverse industries, including not-for-profit, health, and mining. My early career experiences in government and the not-for-profit sector have also enriched my understanding of organizational dynamics and leadership challenges across varied domains. Beyond my professional commitments, I am deeply committed to empowering others. As a longstanding advocate for United Way campaigns and a dedicated volunteer on the Committee for Women of Distinction, I actively champion the development and recognition of extraordinary women leaders.
